Last Wednesday Before Break

I'm wrapping up Proxy and Bess of Hardwick: Empire Builder. The first is for fun, the second was for class. I'm also frantically reading my history textbook as I study for my exam in...let's see...an hour. Gulp.

I wrote a post about dealing with NaNo burnout. I wrote a review of MILA 2.0. Other reviews are in the works, but have been put on hold while I handle finals. I had to write a manifesto proposing a new aesthetic movement in theatre for one of those finals. Ack. And that was just one part of a three-part final.
I have also been trying to get back to writing normally as I work on Contracted. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not "done" with it just because NaNo is over...and that I can break the NaNo "rules" when I write...
What else I'm up to
Exams. Ugh. I finish my last one and go home today. This must be what they mean when they say "senioritis." I've never approached exams kicking and screaming like this before, even when I have been far less prepared. I am being asked to think about too many things. I have also been blatantly procrastinating and wasting time on the NaNo forums.
What inspires me right now
Pentatonix is helping me get into the Christmas spirit...which has thus far been eluding me. In particular, this:

    As you know, I kind of love that Pentatonix "Little Drummer Boy" rendition too. :-) Good luck with your exam! You might even be done it by now, but good luck anyway. I suppose being stuck in NaNo mode is not necessarily a bad thing. The discipline is certainly a good thing. Have a wonderful week, Laura!

      Thank you :) I think I did pretty well on it. Pentatonix is awesome...hopefully their rendition of Little Drummer Boy will make it on the radio this year.

    I'm so impressed with writers who are also students! So much to fill your time with. It's been awhile since my college days, but I distinctly remember senioritis kicking in. Plus I was an RA in the residence halls (dorms) and being a senior among mostly underclassmen, well I loved it up until those last few months then I was DONE.

      Thank you. It does get stressful. I considered being an RA, but then I realized I wouldn't be able to choose which dorm I lived in and I would also probably have to deal with underclassman drama, so...nope. Thanks for stopping by!

    Hey, yeah! That video brought tears to my eyes at the end, (or the music did, more specifically,) and I couldn't even say why! Thanks for sharing it.

    Those are good tips for dealing with Nano burnout too. Nice to meet you.

      Hello! Nice to meet you, too. :) Funny, I also teared up the first time watching it. Something about the way the arrangement starts out so simple and builds so well. Or maybe just their genuine love of music.

I've been learning a lot about DOGS lately

I've been reading some books and online articles about dogs and did you know how amazing dogs are?? Just, from a scientific standpoint?? The history of dogs and dog breeds. Dog noses. Dogs that find lost pets. Dogs that rescue people. Dogs that detect seizures. Dogs that hunt invasive species at ports or just look fucking fabulous at dog shows. Also wild dogs! And FOXES. And other lesser-known canids (canines?) that look very different and sometimes similar and just are all fascinating and cool. I learned, for instance, that Corgis are a herding dog developed in Wales that herds by darting in low to the ground to nip. Whereas the border collies and related breeds herd by using the stare-chase-stare intimidation method. And that Australian Cattle Dogs are part dingo! Who knew? I met a baby Blue Heeler (very similar to Australian Cattle Dog) at work and got to pet a part-dingo dog! My neighbor owns a rescued Australian Cattle Dog. Audiobook Review: The Boy Who Drew Monsters by Keith Donohue

I'm behind on these. There's a whole list of wonderful books that I've been meaning to roll out reviews for. Unfortunately, NaNoWriMo got in the way.  But now it's December and I can get back to what I love writing: snarky reviews. I could have kicked off the next series of Diverse Reads reviews with a nice review. But I'm in a bad mood. Have been since November 8th.
